Camp: (June
15 - August 9)
 |
(Ages 9 - 18) - One week or a full Summer of Tennis. Because not every child
has the same level of ability or interest in tennis, nor the same
amount of available time, we have planned our junior program in weekly
and bi-weekly sessions so that parents and children can decide what
the appropriate length of stay is. Many campers come for a two or
three-week stay, but others stay only one week and some stay all
summer.
The Junior Programs
provide a chance for beginners to learn :the game for a lifetime," and
intermediate and advanced players to improve their skills. The program offers an
opportunity to make friends from around the world, to develop mind, body and
spirit, while learning the principles of sportsmanship in a refreshing,
wholesome atmosphere - and - above all, to have fun!

Information
for planning ahead:
WHAT TIME SHOULD I
ARRIVE ON SUNDAY: Between 3:00 and 4:00 in order to check into your
room and get settled. Grading and grouping will take place about 4:30
followed by dinner and orientation.
HOW DO I GET FROM THE PHILADELPHIA AIRPORT OR SWARTHMORE TRAIN STATION?
Transportation can be arranged to or from the airport for $30 one-way or $50
round trip. Students must notify the Swarthmore Tennis Camp of their
arrival and departure dates and times after receiving their arrival packet.
If flight and train information are not received at least four days prior to
arrival or departure, we will not be responsible for last minute changes.
Campers arriving by plane should go to the baggage claim area where a staff
member will meet them. He will be wearing a STC T-shirt for identification.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO CAMP: With your confirmation you will
receive a packing list including clothing, linens and personal items.
Please leave your jewelry and designer clothing and other expensive items at
home. We are not responsible if you decide to bring DVD players, TV's, I
Pods, etc.
CELL PHONES: Yes, students may bring their cell phones, but please
be aware that they can be distracting to others, and, therefore, we are limiting
cell use to lunch time breaks and rest periods. Campers should use their
cell phones in the privacy of their rooms only.
DINING HALL: Food at camp is typical of a college cafeteria and
campers are given the freedom to make their own choices, of course.
Offered daily are salad, fruit, vegetables, sandwich deli bar and a hot entre.
If you have special dietary needs or allergies, please let us know prior to your
arrival.
OFF CAMPUS MEALS: Students are responsible for purchasing all their
off-campus meals or snacks. An average camper spends $25-$30 per week on
outside food.
LIGHTS OUT: Students are required to be in their room by 10:30 each
evening with lights out.
ROOMS: Campers may elect to have a single or double room. Each
camper is responsible for keeping his or her room neat, clean and presentable.
EXTRA SPENDING MONEY: Most students prefer to set up a bank account
at registration and then are able to draw cash on a daily basis, as needed.
The balance is returned at departure. We advise campers not to keep more
than $20 on their person. The amount of spending money parents give their
child is at their own discretion. However, we suggest bringing
approximately $75-$125 per week for laundry, off campus meals, snacks and
evening activities.
INSTRUCTORS/COUNSELORS: Residential counselors are all college age
students or older specializing in education, hospitality and tennis expertise.
Some instructors are U.S.P.T.A or U.S.P.T.R qualified, and all are STC
qualified.
POLICY ON SMOKING AND SUBSTANCE USE: We have zero tolerance for the
use or possession of alcohol, tobacco, weapons or drugs. Their use or
possession will result in immediate expulsion from camp. If students come
to the program carrying alcohol, tobacco, weapons or drugs, they must hand these
in before camp begins. Parents and students are required to read and sign
he Swarthmore Tennis Camp program rules and policies, which are included in the
arrival packet, prior to their attending camp. Also, students are told of
these rules and regulations during student orientation.
LAUNDRY: Laundry facilities are available at Wharton for washing
and drying your clothes. Coins are required to operate the machines.
ROOM KEY: A $50 deposit is required upon registration for
residential campers. The full amount will be returned at the end of the
session providing the room key is returned and no damage was done to the room.
If you lose your room key, notify us immediately since the lock will need to be
changed.
